Launching the Pro Tools Dolby Atmos course and certification and building it into the Pro Tools learning paths and certifications accelerates their education and career path. “For students, this course addresses the lack of formal learning related to immersive audio. Director of Product Marketing, Audio Solutions at Avid. This course provides core learning opportunities to fill the need for Dolby Atmos training and validates the skills and competencies of sound technicians and engineers to prepare and deliver Dolby Atmos content,” says Rob D’Amico, Sr. The first of these certifications is the Avid Certified User of ProTools, providing an industry recognized credential for both academic users and industry professionals. “The Dolby training course builds on Avid’s global training and certificate infrastructure. Pro Tools certifications are not required to work in the industry, rather obtaining ProTools certification is a personal preference in validating user skills from novice to expert. They will also learn techniques for working with Dolby Atmos beds and objects, Pro Tools session management, Dolby Atmos Renderer configurations, and final delivery formats. The new course will enable Pro Tools mixers to recognize the components of a Dolby Atmos content creation studio, and outline workflows for creating immersive audio in Pro Tools. Upon completion of the coursework and passing the exam, candidates will earn the Avid Certified Professional: Pro Tools | Dolby Atmos certification credential. This course, which also the first Pro Tools Dolby Atmos certified course, is beneficial for sound techs and engineers working in film and television, as well as those in music, deepening knowledge and skills for creators mixing Dolby Atmos with Avid Pro Tools workflows.Īccessed through the Avid Learning Partners program, the self-paced, blended training course covers the integration of the Dolby Atmos Renderer with Pro Tools, and consists of 40 hours of self-learning, 18 hours of instructor-led training, held over 3 days, plus a professional certification exam. You can choose what you want to disclose about yourself and how you represent. These days, everyone wants to be able to mix content in immersive formats, and most major commercial studios for film, gaming or any other variety of content production that needs to be mixed in Dolby Atmos, will most probably offer Avid Pro Tools as a DAW, and eventually will feature one of Avid’s stunning modular mixing control surfaces, which are effectively a physical extension of the popular Avid software.Īddressing a lack of formal education around immersive audio, this new course and certification creates an opportunity for creators to garner a deeper understanding of creating multi-dimensional, immersive sound. I can say that i'm still questioning a 'return' on the investment, but I do know i've been a hero in more than 1 situation, and that has opened up new relationships and opportunities for me. Learning about how and why protools was designed, issues and work-arounds that have been established and its development gives me background that many people don't get from just teaching themselves a program. hm, i don't know.Īgain there are some great books to learn from out there. Maybe schools should be more discerning about admittance & maybe digi should offer certain scholarships if they really want people to learn their gear. and they're usually the ones w/o confidence that have to FRONT about all their education and can't ultimately perform, It gives schools and training programs a bad rep. Many dumbasses have gone to schools and trainings and can't tell up from down, just 'cuz they had the $$ privelege. Usually get a grin and a scratched head when after asking how I knew that I note that I did certification training. Ya know, i don't telegraph that i'm certified or have PT pissing contests, but when we're doing a session and as a 2nd engineer I can fix a session problem, or hold my weight on a arguement about a template, i/o setup, or processing decision that the self taught "Pro's" can't figure out, it has certainly worked in my favor. Most pro's will think you're an idiot for taking the course
